Showing us signs in the heavens, with a promise written in the stars. The heavens declare the glory of God’s creation. They served as a map for the Wise Men to find the Messiah. Yet, it is declared wicked and evil, a tool for modern day witches and diviners. Hidden information, regarded as an obscure, blaspheming device of the devil. Organized religion condemns those who use it as a tool to know the map of one's life.
Yet, the closer we get to our roots, and the truth is unveiled, we see that we are one with the Creator, and the Creator cannot be separated from its creation, for the Creator holds together The Creation. It is a beautiful dance between space and matter, The Nothing and The ALL, Good and Evil, the duality of a Creator who can destroy its creation. As the holy text tells us, “You believe that God is ONE, you do well - James 2:19”. The one God who created the good as well as the evil, and allows ALL to happen. The same God who said “ Before you were in the womb, I KNEW YOU”. In order to KNOW someone, someone must have a personality. Attributes that define the knowing of the person created.
Throughout the ages, Astrology has been condemned as a pagan practice. But the same holy text the religious use to condemn astrologers shows us a different perspective that goes against the popular belief amongst congregations. In order to find the hidden treasures, we must study to show ourselves approved. This requires a lot of time and dedication. Along with a lot of rejection from the ones who are blinded by religious doctrines of men.
To begin we must first understand the word ASTROLOGY. In order to understand the word we must break it down to its true meaning, and not what we’ve been told it means. The first thing that comes to mind when one hears the word ASTROLOGY, is HOROSCOPE. While it is very easy to associate one with the other, they are very different in meaning. When we define Astrology we come to the conclusion that is is simply:
The study of the movements and relative positions of celestial bodies interpreted as having an influence on human affairs and the natural world.
While Horoscope means:
A short forecast for people born under a particular sign, especially as published in a newspaper or magazine.
When we break down the word Astrology, we can see that it is made up from the words Astro, and Logy. Let's look at the word ASTRO. In the New Testament we can see that the word STAR in Greek is G798 ‘astron’ or G792 ‘aster’. We can see where we get our english word Star, it can even phonetically sound as a ‘A Star’. Now that we know that Astro has its origin etymologically speaking in the Greek word ‘Astron’ and ‘Aster’ we can move on to studying the root of Logy.
The Etymology of Logy is as follows:
word-forming element meaning "a speaking, discourse, treatise, doctrine, theory, science," from Greek -logia (often via French -logie or Medieval Latin -logia), from -log-, combining form of legein "to speak, tell;" thus, "the character or deportment of one who speaks or treats of (a certain subject);" from PIE root *leg- (1) "to collect, gather," with derivatives meaning "to speak (to 'pick out words')." Often via Medieval Latin -logia, French -logie. In philology "love of learning; love of words or discourse," apology, doxology, analogy, trilogy, etc., Greek logos "word, speech, statement, discourse" is directly concerned.
In order to get a better understanding of the word logy, let's turn to the very first verse in the Gospel of John:
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
The word “Word” in Greek is Logos. The definition in the Strongs Concordance is:
lógos, log'-os; from G3004; something said (including the thought); by implication, a topic (subject of discourse), also reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive; by extension, a computation; specially, (with the article in John) the Divine Expression (i.e. Christ):—account, cause, communication, × concerning, doctrine, fame, × have to do, intent, matter, mouth, preaching, question, reason, + reckon, remove, say(-ing), shew, × speaker, speech, talk, thing, + none of these things move me, tidings, treatise, utterance, word, work.
In essence when we take the word Astrology, and we break it down, it can be seen as The Word in the Stars. Astro- Aster for Star, and Logy-Logos for Word. Furthermore, Psalm 19 tells us the following:
1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
3 They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
5 It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
6 It rises at one end of the heavens
and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is deprived of its warmth.
In order to proclaim they must be the evidence of God’s handy work. The heavens pour forth speech, yet they have no speech and use no words, and at the same time their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. This brings us to a language not of words, made up of letters or numbers, but of signs. We can take a look at some of the creation in Genesis 1:14-16:
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.
While we can see how closely related Astrology and Horoscope are, let me explain the differences. With Astrology you are not declaring one's future, but recognizing personality traits that describe how a person born during a specific season may act or behave. How one copes with emotions. It exposes a person's strength and weaknesses, for in this matter one is KNOWN by the Creator of ALL prior to coming into the material realm of the Earth or better yet before being implanted in the womb.
The simplest way I came to understand that Astrology is not something “wicked” or contrary to God’s will is through studying his creation. For “Since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes are clearly seen. Being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse - Romans 1:20”. First we must understand that we were made from the ground, or dirt. We can find this in Genesis 1:7 -
7 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
If we came from the ground, then we are no different than the seed planted in the ground that gives us fruits. Prior to man being able to farm and alter a fruit genetically, we had fruits according to its season. Oranges during Winter, and apples during Summer. We have many different types of oranges, as well as many different types of apples. Each with a unique physical attribute. Some with a slightly different taste than the other.
Like these fruits, harvested during a specific season, we humans are also born during specific times of the year or season. When someone asks you “what’s your sign?” They’re basically asking “what season were you born under?”
This doesn't limit you to having certain personality traits, or defines you to identify with the season or sign you were born under. What it does is show you your natural attributes given to you prior to being born, in order to be known by God. It helps you realize what your natural attributes can be when operating under the positive or negative aspect of your season or “sign”. By understanding the season or time of year one is born, we come to “ Examine ourselves” - 2 Corinthians 13:5 -
“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”
For the scripture itself tells us to keep our minds on things above - Colossians 3:2. Jesus or Yeshuah, the Messiah, said to the Pharisees himself they knew how to discern the sky and tell the weather but they knew not how to observe the signs of the ages or times.
Matthew 16:3 “and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”
The Messiah himself was found by the Wise men who were astrologers. They knew how to read the heavens. They were observing the creation of God. We are not to praise and worship the stars, but we most certainly can watch and observe the stars. There is where Abraham looked up and saw the promise. Messiah himself told us he is from above, and not of this world. We are made from Dust, and to dust we return. Same as stars, stars are formed by clouds of dust.
In the book of Job chapter 38 verse 32-33:
32 Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons
or lead out the Bear with its cubs?
33 Do you know the laws of the heavens?
Can you set up God’s dominion over the earth?
The word Constellations in the Hebrew Concordance is used as Mazzaroth - H4216 and defined as follows:
“in the sense of distinction; some noted constellations (only in the plural), perhaps collectively, the zodiac:—Mazzoroth. Compare H4208.”
Another interesting thing I found in my research is the information found in the Dead Sea Scrolls or the Nag Hammadi library. There is a section called “A Horoscope Written In Code” 4Q186. You can read the text for yourself, if your desire is to research and study this topic.
To conclude this article/study of Astrology found in the bible, I am not advocating and promoting DIVINATION or using the stars for telling one's future. The way I practice and use this tool is for personal development and growth. To know myself better, to acknowledge and embrace the positive as well as the negative side of my human nature. To overcome the challenges I face that are caused by our own ignorant decisions.
The goal of organized religions is to keep us in the dark. Don't look at the stars, don't study the cycle, don't observe the signs. Because if we realize that we are not separate from the Creator's creation or the Creator, that we are one with The All through his Son whom he sent to lift the veil. Through whom we have eyes to see and ears to hear. We will be able to proclaim and sing of his kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
Some of the Astrological words that can be found within the bible are:
Castor and Pollux - referred to as the Brothers by Paul in the book of Acts Chapter 28, also known as the constellation of Gemini.
The Man in house/city with the Pitcher of Water - Before the Last Supper , Referring to The constellation of Aquarius
The Kingdom of ‘Ouranos’ Heaven - The Kingdom of Uranus
The Revelation 12 sign of the Virgin woman in the sky - The Constellation of Virgo, Giving birth with the moon at her feet.
The age of Taurus - When God Delivered Israel from Egypt and the Torah was given through Moses, Torah is where the word Taurus comes from. They also made a golden calf or ‘ Bull’.
The Lamb offered by Abel - representing the Constellation of Aries
The passover- Celebrated every spring, 14 days after the new moon has entered the constellation of Aries
I’m pretty sure there are many more references that can be found in the bible. As I continue to study the bible. I will continue to share the hidden treasures promised to us.
